Bandy Workout
Plan and track the result of your Bandy.
Bandy has also been called Russian hockey. Bandy dates back two hundred years and is believed to be what led to what is now known as bandy. It is a team sport consisting of eleven team members, like soccer and is played on a field that is 110 yards long and 60 yards wide. Bandy is similar to ice hockey in that it is played on ice by a team holding curved sticks. The aim of the game is to get a small ball into a goal. The difference however, lies in the number of the team members and the fact that the bandy ball is a small orange ball, nothing like the puck used in ice hockey.
Bandy is a game that requires a lot of skating stamina because of the size of the bandy field. The rules of the game also allow fewer substitutions than a game of ice hockey for instance so a bandy player would need to build a lot of stamina. To play bandy, a person would also need the ability to maneuver at high speed.
Bandy rules dictate that the players are not allowed to use their hands, heads or arms during the play. The game requires the use of sticks to move the ball around although other parts of the body may be used in a limited way. Using the head during play will result in a five-minute penalty.
Bandy is played as a professional sport and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee even though it is not yet played in the Olympic Games. It can also be played recreationally and is really good for all over body exercise as it uses most of the muscles from the neck to the feet. It is generally a free-flowing game with no specified positions for players except for the goalkeeper.
