Curling Workout

Curling

Plan and track the result of your Curling.

In curling, a sheet of ice forms the playing field. It is marked by the houses, which are the target areas at each end of the curling sheet. Each team has four players, although in any one curling throw only three are active – one thrower and two sweepers. The fourth stands behind the button, or center target, to guide the team in tactics and strategy.

The thrower must slide a granite curling stone, weighing between 38 and 44 pounds, to the house at the opposite end of the ice sheet. The technique requires crouching with the feet positioned in the hack, and then stepping back with one foot to gain momentum for the push onto the sheet. The release must be done accurately and with just the right amount of force for success. It takes a consistent Workout Schedule to develop these skills.

The sweepers move their brooms back and forth in front of the stone sometimes intermittently and at varying speeds. The point is to keep the curling stone moving at an advantageous speed and in the right direction. Sweepers must move their legs in short, quick steps to follow the stone down the ice sheet. They must also bend at the waist and use their arms and upper torsos to move the broom rapidly back and forth. The Sport Fitness opportunities are excellent with both aspects of curling. The sweepers have more of an aerobic workout, and the curlers’ workout emphasizes muscle development more.

A Workout and Fitness Planner will help you make preparations for your curling practice. Through discussions with your Workout Friends, you can set up sessions to work on your technique even more. Curling provides such a great workout that Canada has included it in their governmental children’s program designed to improve Health and Fitness among the young.

Workout Nation for Curling

Curling is supported by Workout Nation. A Workout and Fitness Tracker will help you follow your progress. Curling is a sport with three basic positions played – curlers who deliver the curling rock down toward the target, sweepers who sweep the ice in front of the curling rock and a strategist on the ice. Each position has its own physical challenges. All the time spent on the ice for all four members of the team requires a high level of balance and muscular control.
